Lidl Hungary has launched a major logistics hub in Kiskunfélegyháza, representing a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, or approximately €162 million. As the largest warehouse for Lidl in the country, this new center will serve around 70 stores and is poised to enhance the retailer’s supply capabilities across Hungary.
Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics center is a substantial addition to Lidl’s infrastructure and has already generated over 400 new jobs. The company has plans to recruit an additional 50 employees to further bolster its workforce. The facility is equipped with 194 loading docks and includes a refrigerated section measuring 24,000 square meters, ensuring that a wide range of products can be efficiently stored and distributed.
Emphasizing sustainability, the center features a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on its roof, and utilizes technology to harness waste heat from its refrigeration systems for underfloor heating. Beyond its operational efficiency, the logistics hub incorporates a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area, highlighting Lidl’s commitment to eco-friendly practices.
The opening of this facility aims to fortify Lidl’s supply network across the country, with the center expected to dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily. This advancement is a part of Lidl’s broader strategy to solidify its presence in Hungary, where it currently operates 220 stores and sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers.
With the establishment of this new logistics center, Lidl Hungary is set to continue its expansion and strengthen its operations domestically, providing a robust backbone for the retailer’s growing footprint in the region.
